Tomahawk Outfitters offers cougar hunts in Northeastern New Mexico. The cougar hunts take place on private land near Raton, New Mexico. These are spot and stalk hunts with no dogs.
The ranch consists of mountain rimrock, canyons along with oak brush, pines and meadows. The elevation for our Raton ranch is 6,800 feet to 9,000 feet.
These hunts are full service hunts which include; meals, lodging, guide service and game care.
New Mexico operates under a Zone Management System for quotas for total number of cougars that can be harvested and the number of female cougars that can be harvested. So, you will need to book your cougar hunt early because once the quota is reached, the season is closed.
License to hunt cougar can be purchased over the counter. There is also a New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax of 5.75% on all hunts.
All hunters wishing to purchase any big game or turkey license must first purchase an annual Game-hunting License. This is a new mandatory regulation issued by the New Mexico Game & Fish Department for the 2012 hunting season.
